  • Ossu! Here we are, back for one last shot!

This week we're having a look at:

Halloween (tm) Part One - zibox-59
    Once Upon A Time... - Darkforce_carl
    NEON - ollie-360
    LittleBigSchool - DARKO92611
    cardboard world 3 - Smartv3

It's not a bad set-list for our last episode, certainly there's no Blood Pool in there this time, which is always nice. Hopefully there'll be something in there that catches your eye and looks like a fun time to you. Thank you all, sincerely, for all the support and feedback you've given me throughout the past two years, and for giving me the opportunity to do all of this; it's been a real thing-and-a-half.

    Behind the Curtains Stuffs
Of course i'd wake up late this morning. i mean, why would we break a pattern?

So, the year's up. 52 episodes of hopefully at-least-midrange quality wrapped and uploaded. It's a bit hard to wrap my head around really. Also, the fact that i'll not have to be scrambling around like a loon to get things done quite so much. That's really weird. The whole thing's kind of bittersweet.

The plan as it stands: Tonight we'll have the stream. i'm going to put together a playlist of some of the levels we've looked at over the past two years. i think we'll be starting at 7.30 and let it run a bit later than we usually do. Hopefully that'll give more folks a chance to drop in. i'm going to be putting up the post-mortem episode next week, that'll be December 7th. i'd wanted to do it sooner, but...man, putting together the credits scroll is taking for-ev-er. That does give a little more time to get in any questions you'd like looked at, though.

From the second week of December, LittleBite-sizedPlanet will be going to a bi-weekly update schedule. i'm thinking something like one episode that's following the level-selection rules from R15F, and one that'll look at anything at all. There might be bonus episodes in between, for things like tutorials or story bits, what have you. i've still got a couple of weeks to kink things out.

    • Wish I woulda found out about these sooner. Great job, even though the levels aren’t polished you make them fun to watch!!!

      • Thanks so much, Limi! We'll still about the community with the easier-to-put-together LBsP, at least. Hopefully pulling back from R15F will give me the space to put together something solid for Dreams when that comes out as well.

Right then, wrapping things up with a Tuesday Takeaway.

Halloween (tm) Part One - zibox-59
This one plays more like a tech demo or proof of concept than a fully realized level, to be honest. There's just not all that much going on when you look at it all together. On the other hand, thanks to the fiddliness of the hazards/gameplay, you'll be seeing that limited content over and over again. Still, it has its charm, and i think could work better with expansion (which would allow for checkpoints and keep players from repeating the same bits over and over, which ought to lower total frustration). Interestingly, zibox-59 seems to be a friend of mascottag. Maybe they can push him to get to the next part in the series?

        Once Upon A Time - Darkforce_carl
Really liked this one. A solid, coherent look, and quick (if a little simple) gameplay. The level's short enough to get back into and replay, but not so short that you'd have no reason to do so. i still think some of the areas could use a little expansion or re-use, but it's not a major point against. Darkforce_carl popped up in the comments on the 'Tube to mention that the race is intended to be really tight, and there's a bonus to the player if they do manage to complete it. That's cool, but it may have been better to go with a timer, instead of the point-style, in that case. i found another of the hidden feathers this go around, which puts me at three or four? Really wondering where that last one is hiding.

        NEON - ollie-360
Still not particularly happy with the timing of that last bounce-pad section. You can just barely make a diagonal jump to try and hit all the pads in one go, but you'll just barely have the time to do it. It ended up taking just as long to do it that way thanks to missed jumps as it did in the episode when i was waiting and trying to go straight up on one side. Other than that i did like the level a lot. The look was pretty nice, and very clean, which i appreciate. The power-up to track your SackThing was a nice touch, and the little change to the point bubbles was keen as well.

        LittleBigSchool - DARKO92611
Ehhh...ehh... i mean, i appreciate where they're going with this one, but still...there's not nearly enough meat on the bones. The visual presentation as well, could use a fair amount of work. The lack of detailing in the environment makes the flatness stand out even more than if they'd gone with a kludged together base cardboard style. Still, the bones are there to build a fairly solid level out of, i think; and there's a TBC sign at the end, so maybe DARKO92611 will return and beef this one out some.

        cardboard world 3 - Smartv3
We had to wrap the series on a level like this, didn't we? It's...not the best example of the type by any means, but still, it was fun enough. The added quests were fun, but if there were any other secret bubbles here, i certainly couldn't find them. Also, the Highscorer 2 quest...i probably could have stung together one or two more bonus chains, but i couldn't see any way that i was going to be able to get up to 400k, let alone the 600k scores i could see at the top of the scoreboard. Weird.

So, that's the that. A little good, a little...ok, nothing terrible, so that's nice. i really didn't want to end the series with a bunch of Red Triangles. Hopefully a couple of levels in there looked like a good time to you. Thanks as always for all the support and feedback, and have a great day!

        Behind the Curtains Stuffs
Finally finished up all the sticker work for the postmortem episode. Ho-lee crow did that take forever. i mean, it took just ages. i'm not really sure what we'll get into in the episode, really. i mean, there are some boxes to check, but not a huge amount that needs to be said? Maybe i'll nanner on about backstory and world building. It's been on my mind a fair bit recently.

Also, since we're shifting more heavily toward LBsP, i've been thinking of changing up the Title Page/Thumbnail. i like the old one, since it's very clear and straight-forward. On the other hand, though, it is fairly drab. So i kitted up another option, and figured i'd bounce it off you?

i like giving more space to the level's image, and i can convey the type of episode through the Text Colour, as well as, well, the "Episode Type" field. But i worry, depending on the type of level i'm looking at, that the image might get too busy? What do y'all think?

        • Ossu! Got one last episode coming at you here!

Basically we're just going through the year and picking apart the various things that've gone into the show. Plus the credits list. Since a lot of technical stuff's been covered elsewhere, there's a pretty big chunk of time that's spent rabbiting on worldbuilding and character points/arcs we never had time to get around to. If it feels like a rambling fever dream, well...you know i never work from scripts, and it all took so many takes.

Anyhow, thanks so much to all of you. We'll still be involved in the community, 'natch. There should be some LBsP coming up this week. Oh, and we'll have an LBP3 stream tonight at 7.30, though i don't think it'll be another 3hour monster.

Thank you! Thank you! Arigasama ryota! Sayonara! See you and ciao!

          • Ossu! Just a quick video on the new scheduling for LittleBite-sizedPlanet, and where things are going from here.

The too long/didn't watch of it is we're moving to a twice weekly update schedule from this week. Tuesdays/Fridays is the plan. i know i said 9:30pm in the video, but i'm starting to wonder if 10 might not be a little easier for things like updating the posts in forums. The two scheduled videos will be community-level dedicated, with different types as mid-week bonuses (things like tutorials and the like). i'm thinking of having one of the weekly episodes following the LBsP-style "anything goes" school of level selection, and the other being the more constrained style we used in R15F.

As always, thanks for all the feedback and support, and i hope you have a great day!

The LBP3 stream just now was a lot of fun. The demo for Chonos's upcoming level was great. Everyone give chronos453 cookies.

This go about we're having a look at Oddsock Mountain by vuuduo. The too long/didn't watch is it's a fun, short Oddsock ('natch) runner that's a little light on decoration, but shows fair promise. Particularly as it's coming from a 9yr old creator. Thanks as always for all the support and feedback, and have a great day!

It rained today. i didn't think it was supposed to rain. Now all the clothes i left out to dry on the balcony haven't. i'm a wee bit salty about that.

This time around we're taking a second look at NorthBury Grove [The Hunt Begins] by Z0LvLL3LE. We had a go at this one on stream awhile back, and i wanted to really get at it here. If you've not played it yet, the intro-movie level NorthBury Grove [The Horror] should be gone through first for context. Thanks as always for all the support and feedback folks. Hope you have a great day!

i actually have new curtains now, so i can record in the day and still see the laptop screen. This is a nice step up.

Quick heads up, but this just happened with an episode i put together today. So...my video got flagged for a copyright violation (which is a pretty constant occurrence with LBP3, to be honest), but instead of just the usual "this video can't be monetized/ads may play ahead of it for the copyright holder's benefit" notice i usually get, this time it was "this video may not be viewable in some countries." Now the ding was for "Mr. Sandman." i don't know if the holders have gotten more aggressive, or if YouTube is getting more cautious, or what, but if you can't watch episode 085, that'll be the reason why. See? i've always maintained that song was evil.

This go about we're taking a look at The Cardboard Adventure! by echostar3. The too long/didn't watch is it's...got some nice touches in character design, but it's a bit slow going due to a lack in the variety of gameplay. Still, give it a look, yeah? The creator is looking to improve, and more eyes on their work could help.
Thanks as always for the support and feedback, and i hope you have a great day!

                      Behind the Curtains Stuffs
i managed to screw up the calendar in this one, i'm so used to a every Friday update schedule everytime i need to change the date, i want to cycle it forward a full week.

This does nothing to explain how i screwed up the calendar on Friday's episode, mind you.

i find myself continuing to get wrapped up putting together hubs, even though they'll only be on screen for like, what, 7minutes max? It's fun though, so *shrug* whatever i suppose.

Missed the stream on Sunday because my body just decided it would be...sick? i put up something about it on Twitter, but basically i woke up (again) feeling like hell, and it was very akin to being hungover...which is completely unfair! Was shagged out and just dragging myself through the day. Like not even enough muscle control to actually be able to sustain a smile, even a fakey one, which is kind of a necessity for what i do. At any rate, it would have made for a crap stream. We'll definitely have an LBP3 stream Friday, though.

Vacation's coming up, i have no plans, but i'm tossing together a backlog so i don't have to do much production work. Maybe i'll take a trip or something.

You ever have one of those things aggravating the living heck out of you, but you've really got no one you can talk to about it? Yeah, i got that thing going.

This time around we're having a look at D???_DISTORTION//N_20062018 by Chronos453. It's a bit of an odd-duck, a nice demo for a solid sidescrolling space-ship shooter tucked away in the recesses of Chronos' Chapter Zero (which is where that link above goes, by the by). It's worth the effort of uncovering, and is a good appetizer for what should be a great full level. Give it a look-see and drop Chronos some feedback, yeah?
Thanks, as always, for all the support, and i hope you have a great day!

So, i woke up yesterday feeling crap again, powered through the stream (and had a good time playing) but i feel like i was probably a little more flat than usual. Sorry about that Cult Master Monacle!

Now, tonight's LBP3 stream. Ah hah, hah hah, ho ho ho... so the game crashed, twice. Corrupting my profile both times. Luckily my PS+ cloud save kept me from losing all the sets and costumes and stickers i've made over the last few years, but i was pretty salty, let me tell you. Doubly so because, condition-wise, i was feeling pretty good, and was having some fun with the stream.

To leave on a positive note, i picked up an external hard-drive like i've been meaning to do for about ever. i don't know if it's because i'm recording on to that instead of to my laptop, or if it's because after i shifted all my LBP videos over to it, i could clear them off or what, but there's a noticeable uptick in quality (visual quality, that is) of my Isaac videos. Fewer jerkiness and dropped frames. i should've done this well back, really.

This go about we're having a look at Sackboys Christmas Special by srf09. The too long/didn't watch is it's a pretty, well...unambitious, yet still charming Christmas/Winter-themed platformer. Nothing that'll set your world on fire, but still worth the couple of minutes to play. As a note, this one might not play in some countries, so if it's blocked for you, let me know; i'm really interested in how that hashes out.
Thanks as always for all the feedback and support, and whatever flavour of holiday you're into i hope the best for you and yours.

Saw Hereditary last night. It took its sweet time coming 'round to Japan. i liked it well-enough, the bait-and-switch leans pretty heavily on the ambiguity of some tropes, but i think it works for all that. The non-supernatural side of it, though, It really knocked it out of the park.

i'm backlogged almost into February with Isaac, because i frankly can't think of what else to do with my time.

Anywho, this time we're having a look at Brrr-oom Town by gary_WBA. The too long/didn't watch is this one's an oldy-but-goody palette-swap of Boom Town from LBP1. Your enjoyment will be strongly predicated on your enjoyment of that level, but i found it charming enough. It's had a lot of plays in its lifetime, it got tossed up on the Winter Wonderland list as well, but give it a run-through if you haven't already.

i really need to get used to the update posts being at night instead of the morning, don't i?

We've got another A Hat In Time stream coming up tomorrow (tonight? It is after midnight, isn't it?) 7.30p, and we'll have an LBP3 one same time Sunday (hopefully this time the game won't crash).

Took a short trip up to Kyoto for the afternoon, mostly to get out of the house. It was nice enough, but i've been there a bajillion times already, so i just kicked around some of the geek shops in the Kawaramachi shopping area. Picked up a special artbook for Splatoon2, and another for Nihei Tsutomu's BLAME!. i'm a sucker for concept art. Also saw a world-guide for Nier: Automata, but two chunky tomes is about the limit for a unnecessary shopping trip.

Funny you should mention that, as I recently bought myself a concept art book of my own:

"The Art Of Ponyo" -- an interesting time-sink, complete with interviews from Art "Supervisors" and Directors.

Also has a bunch of pictures.

                              Pictures are good.

                              • Pictures are very good, yeah. i haven't seen The Art of Ponyo book, myself; but they run Ghibli exhibitions over here pretty frequently, so i've probably seen something from it at some point.

This go about we're looking at SpaceShip 754 by B2-Evans. The too long/didn't watch is it's a decent platformer presented well-enough, though perhaps slightly without cohesion. Still it was a fun one, and worth a couple of plays at least.

So...New Year's Eve. Apparently 2018 wanted to get one last little kick in the teeth in. i walked down to my local, not really intending to drink, but just wanting to pass over into 2019 around people i knew in a place i liked. Yeah. Well, the local went and closed down. A month ago, according to the old dodger who was in the hall while i was trying to parse the mystery of the closed-door-bills-and-fliers-stuffed-in-the-crack. i'd hoped maybe it was just on vacation for the holidays. Though i guess i kind of had an inkling at first sight.

i'd had no idea, had been out of the loop for...well...for awhile, really. i was deeply, deeply disappointed. One of my 2019 goals was getting back to and involved more with the community of local weirdos, and now it's gone and scattered. Well, i follow a couple of folks on Twitter, and i know some of the tattoo and/or piercing shops where acquaintances work, i suppose it'S time to make the rounds and see what things look like.
i suppose i can't complain too much, since i'd been self-walled-off the last few months in particular. Still, it was nice to know there was a place i was comfortable at here. Even if i hadn't been going there so often.
So, i ended up having a few beers in Triangle Park. There weren't all that many folks out on the streets, which was odd for the neighbourhood. A couple of clubs were running events, but i've never been much of a clubber. i did look around to see if there was a Black Veil event going on, since a lot of the folks i know would have probably washed up there. Couldn't find one, which would make it the first New Years in 15yrs without. Signs and portents.
The drinking was disappointing, by the way. Which, in a sense, is a good thing. i didn't finish thinking i'd really like to take up the habit again.
